Scaling: From Seeds to the Stars, Lessons from the Frontline

DIT Hothouse was delighted to welcome 60 companies to the New Frontiers Masterclass titled “Scaling: From Seeds to the Stars, Lessons from the Frontline” last Monday 16 June.  Sponsored by BDO and held in their offices in Beaux Lane House, Dublin 2, the event was chaired by Dr. John McKeon, with three key-note speakers who kindly shared their experiences and stories.


Chair and Speaker Profiles from the Masterclass are as follows:

Dr. John McKeon

John qualified as a medical doctor from Trinity College Dublin in 1996, is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and also holds his United States Medical Licensing exams. He is a serial

biomedical entrepreneur, currently involved in his third successful healthcare related venture. John is the CEO of Allergy Standards Ltd, the international standards body, that develops the standards for the asthma & allergy friendly® certification programme, a company he founded when working as an Emergency Room doctor. John graduated first in his class from the Dublin Institute of Technology

Hothouse Programme in January 2001 also won the Docklands Innovation Park Enterprise Awards.

Padraig Berry

Padraig Berry has been the founder of, or supported the development of, many organisations across a range of sectors. As the CEO of the Irish American Philanthropist Chuck Feeney’s investment company in Ireland, he had a hands on approach to starting and building businesses. He is  an entrepreneur and more recently has been involved as an Executive and Non-Executive Director of companies, mainly in the technology sector.  Padraig runs Strategic Focus and DeliberateCEO, offering coaching and facilitated mastermind groups for entrepreneurs in growth companies.

Andrew Harries

Andrew Harries, based in Vancouver, Canada, was a co-founder of Sierra Wireless Inc., where in eleven years he grew the company from inception through IPO to over $200m in annual revenues. Subsequently, Andrew co-founded Zeugma Systems Inc. where he served for six years as the President and CEO from its' initial funding to the revenue stage and its eventual sale to Tellabs Inc. Andrew is now an investor, advisor and corporate  director. He chairs the Boards of Directors of Bsquare Corporation and Contractually and is a Director and past Chair of Science World British Columbia.

Jonathan Ruane

After a career in Procter & Gamble Jonathan started Eventovate in 2009, providing cloud software for the hotel industry. The company was listed in the Euro Top 100 by TechCrunch and the Top 50 privately owned tech companies in Ireland by the Irish Times. Eventovate is backed by Delta Partners, AIBSCF and Enterprise Ireland. Jonathan was listed in the Top 40 Irish entrepreneurs under 40 in 2011. Jonathan has recently started his second startup - Currently in development Cirkit is a developer platform for Internet of Things.
