According to Darragh Biddlecombe, GAA Officer in DIT, “The club now faces current champions Kildare in Newbridge on Sunday 18th January. This will be a tough assignment for DIT with Kildare having dispatched fellow UCD students by 13 points 0-21 to 1-05 last Sunday. While many counties use this competition to blood new players ahead of the national league, the Kildare team looks quite formidable with last week’s team featuring eleven of last year’s championship team.”

DIT Selector Billy O’Loughlin remarked, “It’s great to get a fixture like this especially in the lead up to the Sigerson Cup. It keeps everyone interested and training”.  When asked about the team’s chances he said, “Well we don’t have the high profile players we had the year we won Sigerson and Ryan Cup, but on the other hand the guys are working hard on the pitch and we have only lost one game so far this academic year.  We also have beaten two inter-county teams en route here so we are hoping to give a good account of ourselves.  However we are under no illusions - this will be a massive test.  Kildare are chasing three in a row in O’Byrne Cups and have been in the last four finals.  While Newbridge with a vocal home crowd will be a new experience for a lot of our players it will be great test and experience for the guys.”  Many of the Kildare team will need no introduction with a number of past students Gary White, Eoin O Flaherty, Padraig O Neill, Emmet Bolton,  and Tomas O Connor having all played for DIT!
