Innovation Showcase - Dublin Region Innovation ConsortiumPosted: 26 February, 2015
Minister for Skills, Research and Innovation, Damien English TD visited DIT Aungier Street yesterday to formally launch the Innovation Showcase - a joint presentation of research and new technologies by colleagues from five Dublin colleges.
Organised by DIT Hothouse, there were twenty-three exhibits in ICT, Engineering, Clean-tech, Food, and Life Sciences. Researchers from IT Tallaght, IT Blanchardstown, IADT Dun Laoghaire, and NCI (National College of Ireland) as well as a strong representation of DIT researchers, showcased new technologies and innovation across all sectors.
Minister English toured the exhibition and heard directly from researchers about their current work. Launching the event, he commended the five institutions for the strength of their collaboration as well as the exciting research emerging from each institution.
The occasion also provided an opportunity to announce the winners of the 2014 Inventor Competition in four categories – ICT, Clean Tech, Food and Life Science, and Mechanical and Industrial. The winners, who received their awards from Minister English, are as follows:
- ICT: Dr. Brian Vaughan, DIT, for CIDA – voice analysis of interactions between callers and call agents
- Food and Life Science: Clyde Doyle, Andrew Galligan and John Paul Leonard, IADT, for ANVI – a unified training aid for veterinary practices
- Mechanical and Industrial: DIT student of Product Design, Stephen Vaughey for Morphlinx – a new type of creative modelling toy
- Clean Tech: Dr. Niall Holmes, DIT, for CEMBAT – rechargeable cement based batteries for use in bridge and motorway construction.
