Conference Ambassador awards for DIT colleagues

At a ceremony in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham recently, four DIT colleagues were presented with Fáilte Ireland Conference Ambassador awards in recognition of their role in bringing international conferences to Ireland.

L to R: Mr. Shaun Quinn, Fáilte Ireland CEO; Ms. Karen O’Sullivan, School of Hospitality Management and Tourism; Dr. Dominic Dillane, Head of School of Hospitality Management and Tourism; Dr. Kevin Lalor, Head of School of Languages, Law and Social Sciences.

Seventy-nine academic and professional recipients were nominated by the Irish conference and meetings industry for their roles in bringing almost 73,000 international delegates to Dublin between 2011 and 2014, injecting over €101m into the economy. 

DIT colleagues Dr. Dominic Dillane, Dr. John Donovan, Dr. Kevin Lalor and Ms Karen O’ Sullivan were amongst those to receive awards, for their work in ensuring the following conferences took place in Ireland:

  • ENTER 2014: Dr. Dominic Dillane
  • EARMA 2012 - European Research and Innovation at the Horizon: Dr. John Donovan
  • 13th ISPCAN European Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect: 2013, Dr. Kevin Lalor
  • Congress of the International Skating Union (ISU) Ice Skating Association of Ireland: Ms. Karen O’Sullivan

The ceremony highlighted the assistance that is available from Fáilte Ireland for academics who wish to bring conferences or seminars to Ireland.  Support is available for small meetings of a few dozen people, all the way up to 1000+ delegate events.   The four DIT Conference Ambassadors are available to discuss their experiences with other colleagues who may be in a position to attract conferences to Ireland in the future.
