Kickstart the festive season with a Christmas Choir Concert by DIT ConservatoryPosted: 25 November, 2016
Two choirs from DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama perform a Christmas concert in the beautiful surroundings of St Ann's Church, Dawson Street on Wednesday 7 December (8pm).
The DIT Choral Society perform a festive favourite, ‘Oratorio de Noël’ by Saint-Saens, along with excerpts from Vespers by Rachmaninoff. Conducted by Simon Harden, the choir comprises over 40 singers from DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, who are joined by students from other schools across DIT. The choir is accompanied by an instrumental ensemble from the Conservatory.
The award-winning DIT Chamber Choir perform seasonal music through the ages, along with a number of Christmas carol favourites. As well as giving concerts, the DIT Chamber Choir participates in competitions, twice winning first prize in the national chamber choir competition at the Cork International Choral Festival, alongside other prizes for individual pieces. Under the direction of conductor Bernie Sherlock the choir has won the Feis Ceoil Culwick Cup for chamber choir on seven occasions and released its first CD -- Carols for Christmas. In the 2016 ESB Feis Ceoil, the DIT Chamber Choir was awarded the Clef Club Award, the Culwick Cup and the Oliver O’Brien prize for the best overall adult choir.
Tickets cost just €10, with a concession price of €5 for students, senior citizens and the unwaged. A family ticket is also on offer for €20, which includes entry for two adults and two children. Tickets are available for purchase at - www.ditchoral.eventbrite.ie
