DIT Societies raise over €9k in Xmas Appeal

Posted: 21 December, 2016

The DIT Societies office and the all student Societies want to send a huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to this year’s Xmas Appeal!

We have raised €9404.15 so far for 3 worthy charities SVP Society, Simon Community.

Maybe you donated a toy for the SVP ‘Giving-Tree’? Your donated gift has been sent to SVP head office and they will distribute the gift to families across Dublin and Ireland. This gift will be opened on Christmas morning, by a family that needed your support this year. Thank you!

Maybe you bought raffle tickets? Your support has raised much needed funds to support services for Dublin Simon Community, Focus Ireland and the Society of Saint Vincent DePaul. You helped feed a family, provide counselling to a stressed parent in emergency accommodation; you gave someone a warm and dry place to sleep.

Maybe you supported the many Societies Events? We had 50 Society events with 37 Societies participating this year, and individual students volunteered with bucket collection and raffle ticket sales.

Maybe you organised an event, or volunteered, or helped collect donations on Grafton St, sold Raffle tickets or gave your time to support the Xmas appeal. Your time and volunteering helped us create a buzz around this year’s appeal that has allowed us to burst open our fundraising target and this year we have raised over €9404.15!

Roisin O’ Donavan president of the DIT Societies said

“This years’ Xmas was a massive success and it’s the most we've ever raised! Needless to say, we are delighted to donate this money. All these charities are active in areas that combat issues such as poverty, homelessness and housing inequalities, a field that is extremely in need of funds all year round and especially coming up to Christmas time. We received amazing support throughout all the campuses from DIT students, staff members, family, friends, Alumni, local companies and the general public. DIT Societies are so grateful for the support and ongoing encouragement during all the events over the past two weeks for their annual Xmas appeal.”

Congratulations, well done, and thank you to all who supported the DIT Societies Xmas Appeal 2016/17.

Together we made a difference this Christmas.

Happy Christmas
