Oifig na Gaeilge DIT now accepting applications for BÚA ScholarshipsPosted: 4 July, 2018
Oifig na Gaeilge DIT is now welcoming applications for their Irish language scholarship initiative Bain Úsáid Aisti (BÚA) for the next academic year 2018/19.
This is a new initiative that commenced last year which saw successful recipients providing lots of new and exciting ways for their student peers to engage with the Irish language across many campuses in the Dublin Institute of Technology. The recipients of the scholarships organised social meet-ups, musical performances, trips and events throughout the year and established new media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, for DIT students to engage with the Irish language at third level. We now wish to ensure that the foundation work started by this year’s students continues on and we welcome new and current students (undergraduate and postgraduate) to consider if they have the grá agus paisean to promote the Irish language in lots of creative ways here in DIT.
Róisín Cahill, a Creative and Cultural Industries student, and one of the recipients this year, really enjoyed the opportunities that came with the scholarship. “I really enjoyed the year participating in the BÚA scheme. The scholarship gave me the opportunity to continue my Irish at college and to meet new friends with Irish on my own campus and in other campuses. I also learned and developed lots of skills including better communication and organisation skills. I would encourage anybody who has an interest in culture to apply!”.
Scholarships to the value of €500 will be offered to students with Irish to promote the use of the language across the main DIT campuses by organising fun, engaging, and creative opportunities to speak and to engage with the language!
Students will be required to:
• actively organise exciting social and cultural Irish language events across DIT
• develop communication skills by promoting Irish in DIT - social media, print, visual content etc.
• seek and support the development of Irish language services and the visibility of the language in DIT
• inspire the use of Irish in our everyday lives and in the community - at home, with friends, at work, at school etc.
• participate in ensuring the use of Irish in the new campus in Grangegorman
• promote the use of the Irish language in engaging, creative, fun and innovative ways!
The Scholarships will be awarded to each student who successfully participates in the ‘BÚA in DIT’ initiative during the academic year 2018/19 and meets the conditions of the scheme.
If you have Irish, are inspired and energised in promoting and developing the Irish language in DIT, we want to hear from you!
