Oifig na Gaeilge, DIT’s Irish language office was established in 2006 and is responsible for the promotion of the Irish language in every way possible in DIT. Our vision and challenge is for the Irish language to be central to life in DIT. Oifig na Gaeilge’s functions include:

  • developing and providing opportunities for staff and students to learn and use Irish;

  • assisting departments and schools in developing bilingual service provision and implementing DIT’s Official Languages Act Scheme;

  • organising DIT’s Irish Language Student Residency Scheme;

  • providing various Scholarships to DIT staff and students;

  • translation services;

  • supporting students and staff already studying Irish in DIT;

  • supporting an Cumann Gaelach and helping students and other student societies and clubs to promote the Irish language

  • organising Irish language cultural, academic and social events for staff and students and much more besides.

Please contact Oifig na Gaeilge if you have any suggestions on promoting the Irish language in DIT. I look forward to hearing from you.
