Gaeltacht Scholarships, Summer 2019

An Ghaeltacht

Closing date for TU Dublin Gaeltacht Scholarship Scheme is the 1st June 2019.

Oifig na Gaeilge is offering scholarships to current TU Dublin staff and students who would like to spend a week in the Gaeltacht on an Irish language course this summer

TU Dublin Staff:

Current TU Dublin staff who would like to participate on an Irish language course in the Gaeltacht at any level may apply for the scholarship. The scholarship is worth €200 per person towards course fees which will be paid directly to the course provider. The days spent on the Gaeltacht courses are recognised by Human Resources as training days but you must receive prior permission from your line manager to attend any course. Ten various organisations provide Irish language courses across the country and a list of Gaeltacht Summer Courses is available here

If you cannot attend a course in the Gaeltacht, UCD and Gaelchultúr are organising an intensive Irish Language Summer School - Tionól Gaeilge UCD from the 01/07/2019 - 05/07/2019 and support is available from Oifig na Gaeilge to attend the Summer School.

TU Dublin Library, Estates and Student Services Staff can also avail of an additional scholarship that covers course fees and accommodation costs for week long Irish language courses taking place with Oideas Gael in Gleann Cholm Cille, Co. Donegal. This additional scholarship is provided as part of TU Dublin’s Official Languages Act Scheme 2018-2021 in which Libraries, Estates and Student Services are prioritised as key public facing departments to develop service provision through Irish over the coming years.

TU Dublin Students:

Current TU Dublin students can apply for a scholarship to spend a week learning Irish with Oideas Gael in Gleann Cholm Cille, Co. Donegal - any week from the 8th June until the end of August at any level. The Oifig na Gaeilge scholarship will cover the tuition fees and the cost of self catering accommodation and students must pay €50 and their travel and food expenses, except for the courses taking place in Gleann Fhinne from the 20 July – 3 August 2019 which are more expensive as no self catering accommodation is available.

At the end of the course, a short feedback report on the summer course must be completed by all recipients of the scholarship.
