Research Area

Psychophysics of Vision, including

  • evaluation of new generation colour vision tests
  • effects of macular pigment density on visual functions including colour discrimination
  • pre-attentive visual search in glaucoma and optic neuropathy in collaboration with the Mater Hospital / UCD Department of Ophthalmology
  • visual fields


Peter has published research papers on a variety of other subjects in addition to the above, including:

  • contrast sensitivity function
  • prediction of postoperative vision of cataract patients
  • colour vision,
  • night vision and instrumentation,
  • visual correlates of road accidents

Postgraduate Research Supervision

Peter has supervised 3 students to the award of PhD:
