Introduction

The Postgraduate Certificate in Software Development is a short course at Level 9 with 30 ECTS credits. The Postgraduate Certificate (Software Development) aims to provide an opportunity for graduates of non-computing disciplines to acquire computing knowledge and skills needed to form a foundation for a career in software development.

Assessment

Students will be required to complete the assessments associated with the modules they select.  This is typically a combination of coursework, projects and final examination.

Timetable / Hours

Each student constructs their own timetable depending on the modules they wish to take and the pace at which they wish to take them. Each module generally requires 2 hours attendance per week.

Entry Requirements

The minimum admission requirements for entry to the programme are a B.Sc. (Honours 2.2. or better).

The programme is designed to provide a unique opportunity for personnel with experience in the IT sector, but not necessarily in software development roles, to obtain a highly relevant postgraduate qualification on a part-time basis. In line with the Dublin Institute of Technology policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements will also be considered based on the principle of ‘capacity to succeed’. These applicants will be assessed by prior academic qualifications or through the guided creation of a portfolio which demonstrates prior experiential learning in line with the School of Computing RPL policy.

Can I proceed to further study on completion on this programme?

People who complete the postgraduate certificate may proceed to the postgraduate diploma and MSc. Within the School of Computing, students can transfer their credits to other postgraduate programmes within the school.

How long does it take to complete the course ?

Students can complete the course in one calendar year with taught modules being completed in two academic semesters. However students can choose to take a more flexible pace taking modules over a longer period of time.

Students are required to complete 6 modules or 30 ECTS as outlined in the course content.
