Introduction

Please note due to the great demand for our programmes early applications are assessed when received and dealt with promptly. The masters is creative digital media is a specialisation under a broader masters which provides a number of possible specialisations for students; these can be broadly categorised into, but not exclusive to, the following;

(2)   Interactive Media

(3)   Mobile, Smart Device and Dynamic Web Applications Design

The Masters in Creative Digital Media provides a thorough grounding in the core skills and knowledge of digital media technologies and offers specialist production techniques dedicated to the specific needs of the digital media industry.  The course is designed to advance students' employment potential and addresses the specific needs of employment in digital media. It is also suitable as a foundation for pursuing a career in digital media research.

Who Should Apply?

The MSc in Creative Digital Media (DT540B) is ideally suited to graduates of diverse disciplines including media, art, and design, and computer science.  The programme is also suited to educators, engineers and design practitioners who have a requirement for digital media production techniques.  Our typical student mix is 1/3 computing, 1/3 design, 1/3 non digital media.  This ensures a vibrant mix of backgrounds and encourages ideas generation.

CONVERSION PROGRAMME

The programme also caters for those graduates who want to convert into the digital media space and to those with cognate backgrounds to specialize in areas such as Game Development, Mobile & Web App Development and Interactive Media.  It provides a thorough grounding in the principles of digital media design and development while at the same time mixes cognate disciplines and levels through innovative team projects, facilitating peer learning and building interdisciplinary awareness, vital to success in any digital media environment.

It is suited to graduates of diverse disciplines including media, art and design, and computer science. The programme is also suited to educators, engineers and design practitioners who have a requirement for digital media production techniques.

Timetable / Hours

The programme is available in full-time.  The full-time programme is offered over 3 semesters starting in September of each year.

Entry Requirements

Honours degree (2.2 grade or higher) in any discipline relevant to multimedia authoring, design, production or computer science. Selection may be by interview.

Note: Due to the considerable competition for our postgraduate programmes satisfying the minimum entry requirement is not a guarantee of a place. Depending on the programme of study applications will be assessed based on your academic grades and may also take into account your work/life experience. Applicants may also be required to attend for interview for specific programmes.

Career Opportunities

Depending on the modules chosen and their chosen specialisation during the course of the programme, graduates of the programme can pursue careers as web/content designers/developers, IPhone, Android, W7 WebAPP designers, 2D animators, DVD designers, project managers, digital media consultants, media analysts/content creators, game designers, level designers, game software engineers, project managers, consultants, and games analysts.

Graduates are also encouraged to innovate in the digital media space and to set-up their own business. Over the course of the programme, graduates will have had the opportunity to generate ideas and identify skillsets required to bring these ideas to fruition. With the range multi disciplinary talent within the class, graduates will find themselves working with others on new and innovative ideas which can be brought to market as a proof of concept, new small business, or 'indie' media developer .

All students will receive a free copy of the student version of an ADOBE Creative Suite. Other software is provided over the course of the programme.

Although the course has its own high spec media labs fitted out with desktop workstations, students are still required to have their own laptop (MAC or PC) or PC.
