Fiacra McDonnell

Fiacra McDonnell has been a lecturer in the School of Real Estate and Construction Economics in Dublin Institute of Technology since 2008.  Fiacra graduated in 1994 with a BSc  in Construction Economics and has extensive experience in the Construction Industry in the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland holding various Quantity Surveying positions. He was Commercial Director of Aidan Elliott Construction prior to commencing his lecturing career. Fiacra is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, and regularly sits on interviewing panels for SCSI with regard to APC professional interviews.   Fiacra delivers modules in Quantity Surveying Studies, and Tender Documentation on undergraduate courses in DIT, and also teaches Civil Engineering Measurement and Commercial Management on post graduate courses. He currently chairs our postgraduate masters in Applied Construction Cost Management.

Rent rather than buy? Changing housing markets in a changing Ireland.

Dr. Lorcan Sirr lecturer in the School of Real Estate and Construction Economics discusses that Irish property market has changed fundamentally in a short space of time and for many the gloss has gone off home ownership. Speaking today at the National Construction Conference in Dublin, Dr. Sirr said “There is finally recognition that renting is good for the economy".
