Records Management in DIT

Records management is the application of systematic control over information which is required in the administration and operation of DIT’s activities.  The records containing this information serve as evidence of functions executed and activities performed and comprise a valuable source of knowledge as to how and why decisions were taken.  By ensuring that valuable records are preserved and records no longer required are disposed of in a timely fashion, records management promotes organisational economy and efficiency.

Records Management Policy

DIT Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and DIT Governing Body have approved a DIT Records Management Policy.

Records Management Working Group

In order to oversee the implementation and ongoing development of DIT’s Records Management Policy, a Records Management Working Group was established by the DIT Directorate on 9th October 2008.  Further information on the Records Management Working Group is available here (internal access only).

Record Retention Schedules

A Records Retention Schedule is a control document that lists the main records that DIT creates, receives or maintains in the course of its official business and indicates the length of time that records shall be retained for.  Records must be retained for as long as they are required to meet the legal, administration, financial and operational requirements of DIT after which time they are either destroyed or transferred to storage.

The following Record Retention Schedules have been approved by the Records Management Working Group and noted by Directorate as part of the Records Management Policy.
