DIT's Official Procedure for Deferring A Place On A Programme
- Students are required to complete an official DIT Deferral Form . This form must be completed in full and must be signed by both the student and an academic.
- If the deferral is for medical reasons, students are required to attach medical certificates to the Deferral Form.
- Students are responsible for submitting the completed Deferral Form to any DIT Student Service Centre.
- If in receipt of a grant, students are responsible for informing their awarding body of their intention to defer.
Please note:
- The date which the completed form is submitted to the Student Service Centre is recorded as the official date of deferral within DIT.
- A student has not deferred their place in DIT until the above process has been completed, discussion with an academic is not sufficient.
- Deferrals are for one academic year only.
Financial Impact:
- Postgraduate and Part-Time students are not eligible for a refund of fees.
- Fees paid are not carried forward to year of re-entry to a programme
(except on medical grounds and at the discretion of the Institute). - Upaid fees at time of deferral will be carried forward and added to the fee liability for the next academic session.
(Please note that you will not be invited to or permitted to re- register in the next academic session if you have fees outstanding from the year of deferral). - Students must pay the Student Contribution Charge in full when they return for their next academic session.
-
In exceptional circumstances, Tuition Fees can be waived on medical grounds where they apply in the next academic session. This process can only take place where medical certificates have been attached to the original Deferral Form.
(Please note this applies to full time undergraduate students only. It does not apply to Non-EU/Postgraduate/Part-Time Students) - Non EU Students who defer at any point of the academic year are not eligible for a refund of fees.
