Withdrawing From A Programme in DIT

Before You Withdraw

We advise you to meet with your Head of School/ Department and Programme Tutor. The Institute also has a number of support services available if you would like some guidance or advice. You may also wish to make contact with the Student Retention Officer or contact DIT's Counselling Service.

After having considered your other options (such as deferring your studies for a period or transferring to another programme) you may feel it is in your best interest to withdraw from your programme at the Institute.

Be sure about what you are doing and be clear about the consequences – for example, you may be risking your future entitlement to free tuition fees.

DIT's Official Procedure for Withdrawing From A Programme

  • Students are required to complete an official DIT Withdrawal Form. This form must be completed in full and must be signed by both the student and an academic.

  • Students are responsible for submitting the completed Withdrawal Form and their current DIT ID Card to any DIT Student Service Centre.

  • If in receipt of a grant, students are responsible for informing their awarding body of the withdrawal. Please note:
the date which the completed form is submitted to the Student Service Centre is recorded as the official date of withdrawal from DIT.
A student has not withdrawn from DIT until the above process has been completed, discussion with an academic is not sufficient.

Financial Impact:

  • Postgraduate and Part-Time students are not eligible for a refund of fees following a withdrawal.
  • For all students, any unpaid fees at time of withdrawal will be pursued by the Institute
  • Non EU students who withdraw at any point during an academic year are not eligible for a refund of fees

Students who withdraw before 31st October

  • Are not liable for Tuition Fees in their next academic session
  • Are entitled to a refund of the Student Contribution Charge paid in the year of withdrawal, less a €100 administration fee

Students who withdraw after 31st October and before 31st January

  • Are liable for Half Tuition Fees in their next academic session
  • Are not entitled to a refund of the Student Contribution Charge

Students who withdraw after 31st January

  • Are liable for Full Tuition Fees in their next academic session
  • Are not entitled to a refund of the Student Contribution Charge
