External Funding Sources

Self funded students can seek financial support from several sources external to our Institution.

External Funding Agencies

The two main national funding agencies are IRCSET for science and technology and IRCHSS for humanities research. Other agencies include the HRB, EPA and Marine Institute.

Employers

Employers may sponsor an employee to pursue postgraduate studies by research within the Institute. Arrangements are made between the employer, the employee and the Contact person in the relevant School or Research Centre of the Institute. The work may be related to a problem identified by an employer as being of particular interest to her/his firm and expertise and facilities of the Institute may be of particular assistance in its investigation and solution. For further information, contact the Graduate Research School Office.

Local Authorities and State Bodies

Local Irish Authorities may provide financial support to some specific categories of postgraduate students. Information on eligibility conditions (including closing date) and application forms are available from the appropriate Local Authority (County Council or Corporation).

Many International students studying in Ireland are sponsored by their own government or through other international scholarship programmes. In most cases applications should be made through the Ministry of Education in the student's home country.
