Research Institutes, Centres and Groups
RESEARCH INSTITUTES
Research Institutes are established in DIT when research excellence of a sufficiently high standard is demonstrated using the metrices set out in DIT's policy for designation of R&D centres and institutes. An Institute houses several research centres and researchers associated with more than one faculty.
R&D CENTRE
A designated R& D Centre houses a group of DIT researchers and associates with a high level of research activity or consultancy focused on strategic research and development. An R&D Centre may also be established with external funding such as that awarded by Enterprise Ireland under the Applied Research Enhancement Programme (AREP).
RESEARCH GROUPS
Research Groups are generally established by DIT staff with common research interests. When sufficient critical mass and a track record of high quality research has been created these groups may then apply for and be designated an R&D Centre.
