06th Annual Graduate Research Symposium

Snapshot of the packed audience at the 6th Annual Graduate Research Symposium

25 November 2015

The DIT Graduate Research School Office hosted the Sixth Annual Graduate Research Symposium which was held in the Focas Research Institute, with presentations by young researchers from Dublin Institute of Technology, Institute of Technology Tallaght and Institute of Technology Blanchardstown.

DIT’s four research thematic areas, i.e “Society, Culture and Enterprise”, “Environment, Energy & Health”, “Information, Communications and Media Technologies” and “New Materials and Devices” were the themes for 12 oral presentations, and 17 poster exhibitions delivered by current research students. The lively audience comprising senior and younger researchers from the three institutions participated in the discussion throughout the day. The inter-disciplinarity that distinguished most of the projects encouraged dialogue between researchers of different backgrounds and highlighted the cohesion emerging among our increasingly growing research community.

Awards for the Best Oral Presentation and the Best Poster were announced by the President of DIT, Professor Brian Norton who also attended the event. The Best Oral Presentation Award was awarded to Garett Rochford, PhD Student in the School of Biological Sciences (DIT) for his presentation on “Investigating the mechanistic mode of action of novel Cu(II) complexes in Galleria mellonella and mammalian cell models” while the Best Poster Award was given to Apurva Patange, PhD student in the School of Food Science and Environmental Health (DIT) for her poster on “Atmospheric Cold Plasma treatment of organic constituents and bacterial pathogens in dairy wastewater”.
