Sue Norton, M.A., Ph.D, is a Lecturer in English. Her teaching and research interests include creative non-fiction, rhetoric and composition, modern literature, applied grammar and writing skills, and English as a foreign language. She teaches on degrees in both The School of Languages and The School of Media.

Dr Marty Meinardi

Marty Meinardi has a BA in English Language, an MA in English Literature and Drama Studies both from the University of Utrecht in The Netherlands and a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the DIT.  Marty first joined the DIT in 1994.  Within the DIT she divides her time between the School of Languages, the School of Social Science and the Digital Media Centre (DMC).  Marty lectures in English as a Second Language on the International Business and Language Degree (IBL) and Drama in Education on the BA in Social Care.

Research profile: Marty first joined the DMC in 2002 on the Enterprise Ireland funded interdisciplinary DITCALL project, which slows down natural speech without tonal distortion, where she was part of the Language Strand.  Currently, she is part of the Enterprise Ireland sponsored FLUENT project team researching the pedagogical benefits and use of a speech corpus as well as an analysis and retrieval system for the speech corpus to be used in both research and pedagogical surroundings.

Marty’s main fields of interest are:  second language acquisition and in particular oral and aural skills acquisition, technology enhanced learning, language processing, pronunciation and fluency in language learners and the occurrence of formulaic sequences in native speaker speech and its role in acquiring fluency.
