The School of Languages DIT has a long tradition of sharing and developing its language expertise in collaboration with outside organisations. This is partly due to the fact that we existed as a "School of Languages" long before this became the norm in third level institutions in Ireland, meaning that there never were significant, "departmental" barriers among the languages we taught. This may be seen too in the extent of our presence throughout the various Schools and Faculties of DIT.The vocational role in education of the institutions from which DIT grew has undoubtedly played its part. Cooperation with outside bodies in the fields of business, tourism, science and technology as well as with the diplomatic representations of the countries of the languages we teach has always been a fundamental part of our heritage and one which we constantly seek to promote and develop.
