International Exchange
The School of Languages at DIT has extensive links with educational establishments and organisations in Europe and further afield. Europe has traditionally been the focus of international contact for the School and students studying French, German, Spanish and Italian have been able to avail of the opportunity to spend a semester or two abroad. In recent years, however, successful links have been established with countries in Eastern Europe and South America. Links with Chinese universities are also being actively developed at DIT level. All students taking foreign languages as part of their programme of study may avail of the opportunity to spend a semester or two under the EU-funded Erasmus and Leonardo student exchange programmes.
The Study in Europe Website (http://www.study-in-europe.org) provides up-to-date information on thirty-two European countries and what it takes to live and study in them.
The IBL Erasmus Induction took place on 15th September 2009. All incoming students were invited to the full Irish Breakfast in Stephen's Green Hotel.
Regardless of the programme on which students are registered, they may spend up to one year abroad in the country of the language that they are studying. Students studying a language as part of their programmes in the Faculty of Tourism and Food, for example, can choose to go to Finland, France, Spain or Austria.
The DIT welcomes a large number of students from many third-level institutions in Europe, Asia, the United States and South America. These international students take part in the broad range of programmes offered by DIT and contribute enormously to making the student experience at DIT an exciting and stimulating one.
