Conor Norton - Head of Department 



Conor is a leading urban designer and planner who has worked in the discipline in the public and private sectors for many years, both in Ireland and abroad. He has extensive experience and a proven track record in managing and preparing urban design policy guidance and plans at the strategic level.


Dr Ken Boyle



Ken is currently programme chair of the MSc Sustainable Development. He lectures on Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management and Conservation Management. His research interests include recreation impacts on upland and protected areas and the role communities can play in resource management. He has worked with local authorities on historic landscape assessment projects.


Dr Marian Coll 




Marian is an ecologist and has worked as an Environmental Consultant since 2000. She has worked in the field of Environmental Impact Assessment, Strategic Environmental Assessment and Appropriate Assessment as well as carrying out on site Ecological Impact Assessments of flora and fauna. Marian is expert in complex landuse plans and large-scale infrastructural projects.



Ciaran Cuffe 



Ciarán is an architect and planner. He has worked on master-planning projects in Ireland and abroad. He held public office for twenty years as a councillor, TD, and most recently Minister of State with responsibility for planning and climate change. His interests lie in urbanism and low carbon opportunities in construction and mobility.


Dr Alan Gilmer 



Alan works in the general area of biosphere–climate interaction and climate change, sustainable development and bio-resource/land-use management and modelling.   This work has resulted in a series of papers on simulation methods in sustainable land-use development with obvious implications for ecosystem management, climate change and climate change policy.  He has been involved in lecturing to graduate and undergraduate students for nearly twenty years and continues to research and write in the general field of environmental management and sustainability. He also maintains a particular interest in the development of e-learning technologies in the delivery of programmes and the integration of the virtual learning environment in education.  


Paul Lawlor 



Lorcan Mc Dermott 


  Lorcan Mc Dermott

Lorcan is Programme Chair and First Year tutor for the B.Sc. in Planning and Environmental Management. He is a social scientist and lectures at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels on the social, political and ethical context to the use of environmental resources. His research interests include governance, social inclusion and sustainable development indicators.


Dr Deiric O Broin 


  Dr Deiric O Broin

Deiric is Programme Chair of the MSc Local Development and Innovation. His teaching and research interests include public deliberation, urban development and regeneration, EU policy and civil society. Deiric has worked on a variety of research projects with national public agencies and government departments, local government and local development agencies, businesses and business representative associations and higher education institutions. He has written and edited several books, including Politics, Participation and Power - Civil Society and Public Policy in Ireland (2012).


David O'Connor 


  David OConnor

David teaches transport planning and urban design, is Programme Chair of the MSc Spatial Planning and has 20 years professional experience in the transport and urban planning sectors in the Netherlands, New Zealand and Ireland. David is chairperson of the Spatial Planning Graduate Network, a member of the IPI, CILTI and the Dublin City Council Public Transport Committee.  In 2011 he founded and organised Dublin’s first Park(ing) Day.  David is a keen cyclist and an advocate for healthy and mobile towns and cities.

  Conor Skehan

Conor teaches about the causes and effects of development in rural and urban areas. He has many years of Irish and international experience as a planning and environmental advisor to governments, agencies, authorities and enterprises.   Throughout this time he has been continuously teaching and writing about his experience and ideas in these fields.


 Louise Treacy


 Louise Treacy

Louise is a planner and IPI member who has practiced in both the public and private sectors in Ireland and abroad. She has particular experience in planning at the local level, including development management and urban regeneration. Louise lectures on the DT106 and DT122 programmes and is the Erasmus Academic Coordinator for the School of Spatial Planning.
