What are my career opportunities?

Students who obtain an LL.B. are well positioned to pursue a career as a solicitor or a barrister. But these are not the only options. A law degree sets a student apart in a competitive jobs environment for a number of different careers. The analytical skills developed as part of your studies will prove useful in working for a business, or starting your own business. An understanding of law is helpful in pursuing a career in government or the civil service. The LL.B. degree is a qualification recognized throughout the world as representing a significant academic achievement. And by intelligent selection of optional modules, you will be able to present yourself as having knowledge, skills and abilities in a complementary area of study.

What other options do I have after completion?

Graduates of this Level 8 Honours programme will be eligible to apply to complete a Masters of Law (LL.M.), or other interesting postgraduate programmes such as a Masters in Criminology, a Masters in Child, Family and Community Studies, or postgraduate business degrees, among other options.

What will I study on this programme?

Certain subjects are considered essential to the study of law. These include core topics, including contract law, constitutional law, property law, criminal law, European Union law, and other, basic subjects. After building up a base of knowledge in these core areas, law students at DIT then choose specialized topics such as Family Law, Competition Law, International Trade Law, and other, interesting subjects.

The Department of Law at the Dublin Institute of Technology has a strong emphasis on areas of law that recently have undergone rapid change in Irish society. We offer innovative optional modules such as Criminology, Law & Society and Gender, Sexuality & Law.

The LL.B. at DIT also allows students to choose a substantial number of optional modules outside law. Would you like to study a language? Media? Business? Tourism?
