Head of Law Department
Bruce Carolan is an attorney at law, eligible to practice in the State of California, USA.
Mr. Carolan is the past president (1999-2000) of the Irish Association of Law Teachers, and has served on the Executive Committee of the U.K. Society of Public Teachers of Law, now known as the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS). He has been chair of the Section on International Legal Exchange of the Association of American Law Schools, and was a founder member of the Law as Literature Discussion Group of the Modern Language Association.
Mr. Carolan has been a Visiting Professor at Stetson University College of Law, at Washburn University College of Law, and at the University of Florida College of Business.
He holds degrees in law and economics from the United States, and a Masters in European Law (LLM), with distinction, from the University College, Dublin. He also holds a M.Sc. in Tourism Management, and has designed, directed and/or taught on study-abroad programmes for U.S. law schools in Dublin, Belgium, Geneva, Buenos Aires and Granada, Spain.
Mr. Carolan's primary area of academic and research interest is the Law of the European Union. He has published widely in European Union law in Irish, British and US law journals. His teaching interests include International Trade Regulation and International Business Law.
Mr. Carolan is the author of EU Law for Students in Ireland 2d ed. (Gill and Macmillan 2009) and Series Editor of a series of textbooks in the 'core' areas of law, written by DIT staff and others and published by Roundhall Press, Sweet and Maxwell.
