Progression to BA (Hons.) in Social Care


Deadline for application for entry 2012 is 23rd April, 2012

This programme is aimed at those who currently hold a Level 7 qualification in Social Care (eg, Diploma in Applied Social Studies, BA (Ord.) in Social Care Practice).

Entry criteria

Applicants eligible for the progression programme will normally be candidates who have shown evidence of a strong academic record.  They will normally have achieved a minimum of a good Merit on the BA (Ord.) in Social Care Practice (or equivalent), thereby demonstrating their capability for progression to an Honours programme. In addition, applicants will bring at least one year's full time professional practice in a social care setting to their studies.  For the duration of the programme they will normally work in, or have extensive access to, a social care agency. 

Candidates will be selected for the Progression course on the basis of academic performance and work experience. Eligible applicants will be ranked on the basis of

a) their academic performance and

b) the extent and level of their work/placement experience.

The Programme shall run pending a viable cohort of students.

Programme content and delivery

The following modules are taught on the programme

Organisational psychology
Research Methods
Social policy in a changing society
Management in social care
Working as a reflective social care practitioner (including a dissertation)

The modules will be delivered one day per week (Tuesdays) in DIT Mountjoy Square, from approximately 1:00pm to 8:00pm, over the academic year, with occasional Saturdays.

Course fee for the 2010-2011 session was €1550 + capitation fee of €135.
