Current research interests
She is currently Programme Chair and Course Tutor for the MA in Child, Family and Community Studies.
She has a particular research interest in older people in Irish society and was awarded a PhD by NUI Galway in 2006 for a study titled ‘The Participation of Older People in their Communities’. She was awarded a Senior Research Scholarship by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and the Social Sciences for this work in 2002. Her current research focus is examining key elements of social care practice in successful care settings for older people in Ireland
She is at present supervising an M Phil/PhD project titled ‘Transferring Knowledge and Life Experience between Generations: The Potential of Community based Intergenerational Projects.
She has developed undergraduate and CPD courses for staff working with older people in residential and community settings.
