The last twelve months has seen DIT Elite Athlete and Engineering student Conn McDunphys cycling career really take off. The former Lucan CRC rider made the jump to British based UCI Continental outfit Team Raleigh GAC during the 2017 season and has since moved to the recently reformed Holdsworth cycling team, also racing at UCI Continental level, alongside Irish riders Sean McKenna, former Irish Road Race champion Damien Shaw, Lucan CRC team mate Dermot Trulock as well as former British Road Race champion and Team Sky rider Russell Downing.
Conn is now racing both at home, in Britain and on the continent for Holdsworth this season as well as managing to fit in his studies in Kevin St and has said that the structure of the DIT Sports Elite Athlete programme makes full time education and full time cycling possible.
Results this season include a solid finish as part of the Irish U23 team in the Belgian classic Gent – Wevelgem and a 5th place finish overall in the recent 4 day Rás Mumhan in Kerry where he also claimed the white jersey as best U23 rider.
Conn is a member of the DIT Elite Athlete Support Programme which is an athlete led development programme whereby financial assistance and a network of support services are designed to meet the individual needs of elite and high performance athletes. Applications are currently being accepted to the programme before the closing date of 1st June 2018.
