Description:

This is a 60 ECTS credits (30 per year) part-time evening programme in mathematics delivered over two academic years.

The programme has been developed into a well-balanced, broad-based mathematical programme that addresses the central needs and skills that employers require in the modern, technical workforce. It combines elements of statistics, modelling, and applied mathematics together with the technical skills to perform the analytical requirements particularly in the financial and business sectors. Students acquire ICT skills and knowledge that is pertinent and focused towards their use in the workplace.

This programme will appeal to those that require both re-skilling and up-skilling in mathematics with experience in the engineering (including all elements of construction engineering), financial, ICT and science technician sectors. In addition, applications from those wishing to pursue careers in mathematics teaching at secondary level are expected.

The School of Mathematics facilitates progression to further study as the only provider nationally of evening qualifications at NFQ levels 6, 7, 8 and 9. This allows our learners to return to work while continuing their studies or to progress to further study on a part-time evening basis.

Mathematically trained graduates have the generic skills to contribute to sectors throughout commerce and industry. The mathematical and analytical skills of our graduates are highly sought after in the research and development operation of the high tech and pharma sectors. The statistical and operations research training we provide is much sought after for logistical, data analysis and forecasting jobs in business, industry and finance. In addition our programmes are recognised for mathematics teaching at second level

Entry requirements:

The entry requirements are:

(a) the DIT BSc (Ordinary) in Mathematics/Mathematical Studies

or

(b) other general/ordinary degrees with Mathematics as a main subject

or

(c) the Licentiateship of the IMA

or

(d) Any other such qualification that the Institute may deem equivalent.

Applications will be assessed individually based upon examination results, transcripts from previous study and evidence of certified/non-certified additional learning.
