Description
This is available to Springboard 2011 applicants as a one-year programme, providing a path to complete a Higher Certificate in Computing. In order to qualify for the programme, applicants must have prior learning at least equivalent to one year of study in Computing at level 6. This can include professional experience in Computing, or professional qualifications, or academic qualifications.
Students complete 60 credits (half of the required 120 credits) by completing taught modules and projects in the School of Computing. The selection of modules is determined following discussion with programme staff, considering the individual student’s background and the gaps in their knowledge and experience.
The remaining 60 ECTS is arrived at through the completion by the student of a portfolio for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This portfolio demonstrates the student’s knowledge, skills and abilities arrived at through prior professional experience and is completed following guidance by programme staff.
Springboard 2011 applicants who already hold a relevant Level 6 qualification are advised to apply for BSc (Ordinary) Information Systems and Information Technology (DT770).
An alternative programmes at level 6 for applicants without any background in Computing is the Higher Certificate Science and Technology (DT761) which can be completed in two years, with the option to specialise in Computing in the second year.
This is also available to fee paying applicants who can apply to enter the programme at any level and work towards Higher Certificate, BSc (Ordinary) or BSc (Honours).
Course Duration
This is a Higher Certificate programme which can be completed part-time in one year by students who have experience in the ICT industry but do not have a full academic qualification in the area.

Progression
Graduates of this programme are eligible to apply for admission to the BSc (Ordinary) Information Systems and Information Technology (DT770) and thereafter for the many postgraduate programmes available in the School of Computing and elsewhere.
Entry requirements
This is a programme at Level 6 on the NFQ, and as such, applicants must have a qualification at Level 5, and qualifications and/or experience equivalent to one year of study at Level 6.
