Description

“Science, Technology and Innovation are vital to our economic and social progress.”

Science and technology represent two hugely significant, and often misunderstood, sectors in Irish industry. They also represent skill sets which are at the core of so many other areas, relying as they do on problem solving, innovation, curiosity and logical thinking.

The aim of this programme is to take individuals with qualifications at level 5 and 6 and provide them with a route into Science and Technology as a growth area. This programme will introduce the learner to different areas within the Science and Technology sectors to a level sufficient to award a Higher Certificate, with onward paths into stage 2 of Level 7/8 programmes.

This programme gives learners the chance to move into Science and Technology without requiring any background in the area. Such learners can learn about Science and then use that to distinguish themselves in a discipline of their choice, or progress to further study in Science and Technology.

This is a highly innovative part-time  programme, includes modules on experiential learning and career development in addition to core Science and Technology modules.

Course Duration

This is a two stage programme completed over two years part-time. Students complete modules from various Science disciplines at stage 1 and progress to stage 2 where they join one of three streams:

  • Science: This stream includes modules from across the Sciences
  • Computing: This stream is specifically focussed on computing and information technology
  • Mathematics: This stream is focussed on mathematics and the application of mathematics
