DIT Volunteering Opportunities
Welcome to DIT Student Action
"Volunteering is the commitment of time and energy, for the benefit of society, local communities, and individuals outside the immediate family, the environment or other causes"
DIT as one of Irelands leading third level education providers is committed to supporting, facilitating and encouraging students to volunteer in a structured environment.
Graduate recruiters are increasingly looking for more out of their applicants than just a degree. Not only do they want to see a wider range of experience, but they also want to see evidence of how you gained it. Volunteering is an ideal way to gain desirable skills and to gather evidence along the way.
We have seen first hand the enormous amount of volunteering work done by the students of DIT, to enrich college life or for the benefit of the local communities.
This webpage is designed to tell you everything you need to know and how to find the best opportunity that suits you.
You are in the position so many students before you have found themselves in, eager to be involved and make a difference in the community, and excited about developing practical skills which could help you impress those future employers. Becoming a volunteer will provide you with a real sense of achievement. We hope that you can join us and become a valued volunteer.
DIT Student Action will exist to enable students and staff at the Dublin Institute of Technology to take part in innovative, volunteer-led projects. There will be an array of projects to get involved with, where you will have the opportunity to volunteer as much or as little as you like working with children, young people, the elderly, in campaigns and fundraising, in the community, overseas and in course based community learning opportunities.
"Voluntary activities are undertaken of a
person's own free will, without payment, except
for the reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses"
Projects will be a mix of student-led and service-led projects, so you will get an input into decision making and direction of projects. You'll be supported every step of the way by the relevant people. Whatever you're interested in there will be something for you to do- homework clubs, supervised study, mentoring, class reps, soup runs, flat decoration, drama, website building, arts and crafts, dancing, juggling - the list goes on.
Stand out from a crowd of 20,000 students and volunteer - be a graduate with a difference, and make a difference!
If you have any questions about the volunteering opportunities you see contact the relevant person and they will answer any questions you have!
