Students with a Disability
DIT has an excellent Disability Service to assist students with any sort of a disability, including:
- Physical
- Sensory (e.g. Sight/Hearing Impaired)
- Ongoing Long Term Illness
- Mental Health
- Specific Learning Disability (e.g. Dyslexia)
The Disability Service offer a range of Assistive Technology Services such as computers and specialised software for students with visual impairments, dyslexia and other disabilities. Students with dyslexia can also avail of the Learning Skills Service. The Disability Service can also provide:
- Extra tuition in certain circumstances
- Loop systems for hearing impaired students
- Sign language interpreters
- Taped lectures in certain circumstances
- Transcription of lecture notes in certain circumstances, particularly beneficial for students who are deaf or who have impaired hand function
- Note-taking service
- Enlarged photocopying for students with visual impairments and dyslexia
- Braille text
- Assessment of specific learning disabilities
The service offers Learning Support Officers to help you through your course; students will disabilities can also avail of certain exam accommodations (e.g. separate room, extra time) depending on their circumstances.
