Mature Students: Student Maths Learning Centre
The level of maths ability required for some courses can be a challenge for students who haven't used maths in some time. Whether you need to brush up on your skills or start over from the very basics, the Student Maths Learning Centre (SMLC) can help. The Centre aims to provide mathematical support in a relaxed, non-judgemental environment, and is available to all students from the Faculties of Engineering, Science and Business. First year students are especially welcome.
Support is given through one-to-one tuition and offered on a drop-in basis. There is no need to make an appointment in advance. Any student who is experiencing mathematical difficulties is welcome to attend any session at any site.
Further information and SMLC website
The purpose of the SMLC is to be used as a supplement to lectures and tutorials and not as a substitute for these. We strongly advise students who are experiencing difficulties with maths to attend the SMLC regularly and as early in the academic year as possible. Students should note that weeks preceding the exams are extremely busy and it is not always possible to attend to everybody’s need during that period.
You can visit the SMLC website for more information, including timetable, here: Student Maths Learning Centre Website
There's a very helpful list of downloadable tutorial sheets covering a range of subjects from basic fractions to differential equations and much more available on the bottom of the SMLC webpage.
