General Study Skills Handbook

There are two support handbooks available to students - the first is a General Higher Education IT & Study Skills Handbook, suitable for any student, that starts at the very start wirth basic computer skills, Microsoft Office and email activities, then moves onto study skills, WebCourses and more. The second is an Academic Reading & Writing Handbook, concentrating in more detail on academic reading, note-taking, research, referencing and essay/assignment writing. This handbook is focused primarilty on Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences students, but is an invaluable resource for any DIT student. You can get a copy from our Mature Student Support Officer or you can download them here. Study Skills Classes

Want to find out how to write the perfect essay or make a great presentation? Then our free lunchtime classes are just what you need! The classes cover 5 main areas:

- Assignment Preparation (including Plagiarism Awareness)
- Time Management
- Working in Groups
- Making a Good Presentation
- Exam Preparation & Techniques

The classes run throughout Semester 1 and are each delivered twice:

  1. Northside Students: Cathal Brugha St. on Tuesdays and
  2. Southside Students: Aungier St. on Thursdays

Each class runs for about 45-50 minutes between 1 and 2pm and is absolutely free. No need to make an appointment, just come along on the day.

The Study Skills Classes will start on Tuesday, September 27th 2011 and will follow the below timetable:


Assignment Preparation & Plagiarism Awareness: (delivered by the DIT Disability Service)

  1. Tuesday 27th September, 1pm: Cathal Brugha St, Kathleen O'Sullivan Theatre
  2. Thursday 29th September, 1pm: Aungier St, Black Box Theatre (downstairs beside Students' Union)

Time Management: (delivered by the Careers Service)

  1. Tuesday 11th October, 1pm: Cathal Brugha St, Kathleen O'Sullivan Theatre
  2. Thursday 13th October, 1pm: Aungier St, Black Box Theatre (downstairs beside Students' Union)

Making a Good Presentation: (delivered by the Careers Service)

  1. Tuesday 1st November, 1pm: Cathal Brugha St, Kathleen O'Sullivan Theatre
  2. Thursday 3rd November, 1pm: Aungier St, Black Box Theatre (downstairs beside Students' Union)

Working in Groups: (delivered by the Access Service)

  1. Tuesday 15th November, 1pm: Cathal Brugha St, Kathleen O'Sullivan Theatre
  2. Thursday 17th November, 1pm: Aungier St, Black Box Theatre (downstairs beside Students' Union)

Exam Preparation & Techniques: (delivered by the DIT Disability Service)
