Student Assistance - General
The Student Assistance Fund (financed by the Higher Education Authority and the EU) may provide limited support for whole-time DIT students who are in severe financial difficulties due to unforeseen circumstances or who are disadvantaged and require additional financial support to enable them to fully benefit from their third-level studies.
Students will normally be referred to the fund by DIT Student Counsellors, Chaplains, Course Tutors or Students' Union Welfare Officers.
Rent Assistance Scheme (€800 per annum)
This scheme provides assistance for students whose main family residence is outside of Dublin, students living indepently due to personal circumstances and for mature students living indepently. The student must be in a formal rental situation with a landlord.
Class Materials Scheme (€500 per annum)
This scheme provids assistance to students who are required to purchase expensive materials for courses mainly in Art & Desighn and Photography.
Travel/Subsistence Assistance Fund
Where students must travel as part of their academic programme assistance may be provided depending on the level of parental income/student income.
Emergency Assistance
Emergency funding can be provided where students require immediate financial assistance in some of the following circumstances:
- Students who are on placement abroad and require emergency financial assistance
- Students who need to vacate their accommodation urgently
- Students who suffer bereavement and require immediate assistance to attend the funeral or related expenses
- Travel of an urgent or essential nature
- Students who have accidents
- Emergency and extenuating circumstances
Dental/Ophthalmic Assistance Fund
This is a scheme to provide help for any whole time student of the DIT, who is in financially difficult circumstances, with the cost of routine Dental or Ophthalmic treatment.
Specialist & Medical Assistance Fund
This is a scheme, which provides financial assistance to whole time students in need of specialist and medical treatments. (Seperate application forms below)
