Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Civil Engineering  (Programme Code: DT032) 

Description

To prepare students for a Technician Higher Certificate/ Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Civil Engineering and to meet the academic requirements for technician engineer status with the Institution of Engineers of Ireland.

Content

Subjects offered for the Higher Certificate will include: Computing, Engineering Science, Drawing, Mathematics, Mechanics, Surveying and Work-based Learning.  Options offered for the Bachelor of Engineering Technology will be in Structural and Environmental Engineering.

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate Students: Leaving Certificate or equivalent with passes in Mathematics, a science subject (preferably Physics), English/Irish and two other subjects,

or 

Senior Trade Certificate with suitable endorsement subjects.

Students are expected to be already suitably employed in Civil Engineering.

Duration

3 years to Higher Certificate stage, 5 years to Bachelor of Engineering Technology stage. Students normally attend on one evening and one full day per week.

How to Apply/Enrol

Completed application forms should be returned to the School of Civil & Building Services Engineering (address listed below) by Friday, 9th September 2011. As the number of places is limited, candidates may be short-listed on the basis of information supplied on the application form. Late applications may be considered should vacancies remain. Candidates will be notified of the outcome or of any short-listing procedures.  Part-time enrolment will take place in September.  

Programme Fee (2010/11) *  

320 Euro per module (5 ECTS credits per module)

630 Euro - Eng Economics & Management 1 Module (10 ECTS credits).

630 Euro - Project Module (10 ECTS credits).

630 Euro - (Year 5) - Project Fee (10 ECTS Credits)

Capitation Fee (2010/11) *

135 Euro.

* Please note, 2011/12 fees to be announced late August.

Examinations

Examinations in each subject at the end of each session/year.

Award

Higher Certificate/Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Civil Engineering of Dublin Institute of Technology.

Career

Opportunities Employment as a technician in Structural or Environmental Engineering.
