Description

To prepare students for the above Certificate award and to meet the academic requirements for Engineering Technician status with the Institution of Engineers of Ireland and the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers.  It is intended to deliver the subject modules listed below is subject to resource constraints and there being sufficient numbers of students enrolled to warrant separate part-time lectures.  In limited cases where it is not viable to deliver separate part-time lectures, the equivalent whole-time subject module may be offered as an alternative.

This programme is currently under examination at present with a view to amalgamation with cognate programmes to facilitate a more viable common delivery of the lectures.

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate students: Irish Leaving Certificate or equivalent with passes in Mathematics and English or Irish and three other subjects. Students would usually be employed in the building services industry before commencing the programme.

Mature students: Mature students are considered on an individual basis, subject to receipt of a CV and relevant work experience.

Duration

This programme is offered over three years.  The timetable varies but is typically 12 lecture hours per week over 2 to 4 days or evenings.

Start Date

September 2011.  

How to Apply/Enrol

Completed application forms should be returned to the School of Civil & Building Services Engineering (address listed below) by Thursday, 25th August 2011 or by attendance at the enrolment in September. It is anticipated that part-time enrolment will take place early September 2011.

Examinations

Courses will be examined by a terminal examination at the end of each session (January & May) or by continuous assessment throughout the session.

Award

Higher Certificate in Building Services Engineering of Dublin Institute of Technology (Level 6), accredited by Engineers Ireland.

Career Opportunities

Employment as a technician in the building services industry.

Progression

On completion of the Higher Certificate, students may progress to Year 4 and 5 of the programme to achieve a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Level 7) in Business Services Engineering.  The delivery of Years 4 and 5 is shared with the wholetime DT005 programme (common lectures).
