Description

To enable students to achieve EN287 standard on the MMA and Oxy-acetylene Welding programme.

Content

Introduction to welding, safety with regard to dress/behaviour in the workshop and on site, welding joints and positions, welding terminology, welding equipment and accessories, practical welding of the standard joints with the manual metal arc and oxy-acetylene processes. Visual and destructive testing relevant to the standards required.

Entry Requirements

Employment in welding or an engineering or allied trade with an interest in learning the basic skills in arc and gas welding.

Examinations / Assessments

EN287 / ASME IX Coded Welder Certificate conducted and supervised by an external awarding body on the last night of the programme.

Progression

To Welding Programmes DT040 or DT041

Learning Outcome

Students will be able to carry our basic welding processes on low carbon flat plate or box section using manual metal arc and oxyacetylene welding.

Career Opportunities

Welding positions in light fabrication, or sheet steel industries.  Successful completion of EN287/ASMEIX Coded Welder Certificate enables the certificate holder to work unsupervised on site.
