Description
This course has been developed to provide learners with an introduction to the principles of nutrition and health. Over the twelve weeks of the course, candidates will initially study nutritional science including physiology, biochemistry and metabolism.
The function of individual nutrients (carbohydrates, fats, proteins, alcohol, vitamins and minerals) will be examined in detail, and their role in health and disease explored. Other lifestyle behaviours influencing health will also be discussed.
The fundamentals of food science and its role in nutrition will also be examined. Finally, the role nutrition and lifestyle in common disorders including obesity, cardiovascular/heart disease and cancer will be discussed.

Timetable / Duration
Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm to 9.30pm for a total of twelve weeks.
Examination
It will conclude with a final examination of 1.5 hours duration on Tuesday 30th of November
Award
Successful completion of which will entitle candidates to 5 ECTS credits.
Registration
Registration will take place in September (date & time to be confirmed) at the Registrations Office, 2nd Floor, DIT Kevin Street and you should bring the following with you to enable you to register on the programme:
1. Passport (with Work/Study Visa if applicable).
Please note that International students on Stamp 2 (wholetime study) or Stamp 3 (visitor/ spouse) visa will not be allowed to register for the programme, even if they are offered a place. Stamp 1 (work permit) or Stamp 4 (resident/refugee) visa holders may apply. Assessment of visa status will occur at registration time.
2. Full fee payment.
Payment can be made by any of the following methods (cash will not be accepted):

- Personal or third party cheque made payable to Dublin Institute of Technology
