Aims of the Programme
The overall aim of the programme is through a process of education to develop a high level of intellectual awareness and technical competence in Business and Legal Studies.
It is expected that graduates of the programme will be able to take their places in management positions in business, commerce, and the public sector and demonstrate a high level of competence. With further management experience, they will be capable of reaching the most senior management positions.
For those wishing to pursue a career in law the programme has specific aims. It aims to develop the students’ knowledge and understanding in some elements of the law, to develop a range of key management skills and to extend and integrate the total programme to a level expected of competent business professionals.
Career Opportunities
The programme is designed to enhance the opportunities for advancement in their management careers for graduates in industry, the service economy, banking and financial services, the public sector and trade unions. The programme provides an excellent conceptual and analytical training for those seeking senior management roles in their organisation.

Entry requirements
Applicants should have a Leaving Certificate with passes in not less than six subjects, two of which should be at Grade C3 or better on higher level papers. Mature students with a satisfactory level of education and relevant business experience are welcome to apply. Applicants may be interviewed before admission.
Nature, Duration and Structure of the Programme
The programme is designed on a modular basis and is structured into four stages. While completion of the programme is not time constrained i.e. it does not have to be completed within a set time period, it is anticipated a student could complete each stage of the programme within one year. This will require attendance at lectures on at least three evenings per week throughout the programme. However, given D.I.T.’s commitment to Life Long Learning and to flexibility in supporting part time students, it is anticipated that students will progress through the programme at differing paces, depending upon their personal circumstances which likely dictate the time available to commit to their studies.
How to apply / enrol
Completed application forms should be returned not later than Friday, 20th July 2012 to the School Administrator in the School of Management (address above). Enrolment will take place in DIT Aungier Street in early September 2012 from 6-8 pm. Late applicants will only be considered should vacancies still remain in September.
Examinations
Examinations are held in January and May with supplementals in September.
Exemptions
Holders of approved third level or professional qualifications may be granted exemptions on a subject for subject basis in Stages one and two and exceptionally in Stage three.
Award
B Sc (Business and Legal Studies).
The degree is awarded by the Dublin Institute of Technology under the degree awarding powers made available to the Institute by the provisions of the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) Act, 1996, with classifications as specified for Honours degrees in the DIT Regulations:

Progression
To progress from one stage of a programme to the next a student must normally pass modules to the value of 60 ECTS credits at that stage including all those modules which are compulsory for that programme of study.

The programme aims to provide an intellectual formation and a path to personal development which will develop a graduate equipped with a high level of intellectual awareness and technical competence in Business and Legal Studies
