Description
The course sets out to explain the different elements of advocacy and its boundaries and to identify the core principles underlying advocacy.
Course Content
The course will develop the necessary understanding and range of skills required by a good advocate by outlining the legal background to advocacy, developing skills to support and empower clients to speak for themselves and applying advocacy skills in a range of areas, for example, employment, social welfare and health.
Entry Requirements
Holders of the Citizen’s Information Board’s FETAC accredited Information Providers Programme (IPP) at Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) or who have worked for at least 2 years as an information provider / advocate.
Contact Hours
60 hours plus independent study of 140 hours, as set out by Citizens Information Board.

Award
On successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded a Certificate of Continuing Professional Development by the Dublin Institute of Technology (10 ECTS credits at NQAI Level 7).
Examination
Continuous assessment: two assignments and 75% attendance 75% at classes.
