Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC )

Dublin Institute of Technology welcomes applications from students who are presenting FETAC Level 5 awards and there are around 450 first year places available on Higher Certificate Programmes, Ordinary Degree Programmes and Honours Degree Programmes for such applicants.
These places are in addition to the normal quota of places available to other applicants.
Allocation of these places will be based on the following criteria:
- Applicants must apply through the CAO system.
- Application can be made online at http://www.cao.ie or click here! Make sure you select the "FETAC" category.
- Applicants must have obtained a full FETAC award. A Component Certificate is not sufficient.
- A major award maybe accumulated over more than one academic year. In such cases it is the responsibility of the applicant to apply to FETAC for a major award where courses are taken over more than one year.
- The best 8 modules are used for ranking purposes for a reserved quota of places on a number of courses.
- Applicants presenting full FETAC Level 5 awards will not be required to meet minimum entry requirements based on Leaving Certificate results. The FETAC award is accepted in its own right.
- Points will be awarded for the best eight modules passed in the particular FETAC course. The points awarded per module will be as follows

Most modules have a credit value of one. Where a module has a credit value greater or less than one, then this will be included in the points calculation. For example if a particular module has a credit value of two then a distinction would give a points level of six (3x2).

Some programmes require specific awards. It is important to know which awards are accepted for entry to these programmes.

Offers of places to successful applicants will be issued in CAO round zero offers in August each year.

Unfilled places will be offered to successful applicants in subsequent rounds of CAO offers.

In the case of Honours Degree programmes applicants must normally achieve a minimum of five distinctions (check our list below for exceptions) in a full award to be eligible. In addition applicants will be required in most cases to have specific FETAC awards and some designated modules.

In the case of Higher Certificate and Ordinary Degree applicants are simply required in most cases to present a specific FETAC award.

Students who obtain one of these places on an Ordinary Degree programme and who achieve the appropriate result in their final DIT examinations may compete for progression to third year of a related Honours Degree programme.
