What is Print & Digital Media Technology Management?

This course provides a route of entry to professional careers in the print media industry, which incorporates print and packaging. The print media sector is indigenous to Ireland and is traditionally a large employer. Print and Digital Media Technology Management is a programme which will present the necessary skills to the successful graduate to enter the print and packaging and associated media sectors in either an administrative or managerial position. It will also engender a spirit of entrepreneurship. The programme uses a flexible learning approach and encourages professional, managerial, technical and operations skills development. Various learning approaches are employed including problem-based learning, team work, industrial visits, laboratory work and guest lectures.

What are my career opportunities?

This level 8 honours degree programme is appropriate for persons wishing to commence or develop a career in professional management or business administration in the print media sector. It is the career point of entry requirement for roles in production management, operations management, estimating, sales and marketing and general management within the sector. This programme will also assist in the entry to other sectors and organisations which require the skills of managerial and technical competency. It also provides an excellent platform for those wishing to progress to post-graduate studies or further professional qualifications.

What other options do I have after completion?

It is envisaged that a Masters programme will be developed for successful graduates of this programme. This programme will be prepared for 2012. Graduates from this programme with the appropriate 2.1 degree can gain progression to a range of Master level programmes.

What will I study on this programme?

The participant will study a range of both business and technology subjects. The business modules are similar to those delivered on a general business programme. Technology subjects focus on the print and digital media technology sectors. These give the breadth of subject expertise and appreciation to operate effectively in the industry.

There is a full semester of Industry placement when the participant will undertake a project with a firm operating in the sector.

Are there study abroad opportunities?

An ERASMUS agreement is in place with the University of Applied Sciences in Munich, Germany. Students are encouraged to take a semester of comparable ECTS rated subjects there.
