What are my career opportunities?
Career opportunities exist in most tourism enterprises worldwide. Graduates are trained professionals with sound operational work experience and a comprehensive understanding of the tourism industry. As such, they are in demand by a large cross-section of the industry from general management within the tourism industry, to more specialised areas. Students will have the necessary expertise to operate as industry professionals in areas including airlines, tourism offices, transport companies, travel agencies, tour operators, state and semi-state agencies, private consultancy companies and visitor attractions.
What other options do I have after completion?
Graduates have found the BA programme an excellent foundation for continuing their studies to acquire a Level 8 BSc (Honours) in Tourism Management (DT406A) in DIT and other programmes at Honours Degree and Masters level.
Programme Description
This programme is an ideal starting point for those wishing to pursue a career in the vibrant travel and tourism industry.
What will I study on this programme?
A key focus is on applied management subjects such as finance, information technology, human resource management, sales and marketing and communications. These are complemented by more discipline specific subjects such as tourism studies, sustainable tourism, transport and heritage interpretation. Students also study one European language. It provides a programme of study that enhances relationships with industry and the School as a centre of excellence in the Tourism Management area and it encourages social, ethical and leadership competencies in this field.

Erasmus & Professional Internship: A period of professional internship in the tourism industry is undertaken in this year, preceded by a tailored induction programme. The internship is arranged & supervised through the School of Hospitality Management & Tourism.

Are there study abroad opportunities?
The BA Tourism Management offers the opportunity to undertake a work placement abroad. If work placements are taken within the EU they can be funded through the Erasmus Student programme.
