The accredited programme meets the academic requirements for the status of Engineering Technician with both the Institution of Engineers Ireland and the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers. The programme modules are delivered with similar part-time engineering disciplines, for the quantitate modules, and with the whole time Building Services Engineering equivalents for the applied modules. Upon successful completion of the higher level certificate students can opt to do an additional two years part-time for an Ordinary Degree in Building Services Engineering.
The programme is particularly aimed for part-time students who have knowledge of the Building Services Engineering industry or who wish to up/re-skill in the industry. Qualifying students will be assessed, during the application process for suitability on the programme.

Leaving Certificate students: Irish Leaving Certificate or equivalent with passes in Mathematics and English or Irish and three other subjects. Students would usually be employed in the building services industry before commencing the programme.
Mature students: Mature students are considered on an individual basis, subject to receipt of a CV and relevant work experience.
Modules will be examined by a terminal examination at the end of each semester (Winter & Summer) or by continuous assessment throughout the semester.
On completion of the Higher Certificate, students may progress to Year 4 and 5 of the programme to achieve a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Level 7) in Building Services Engineering. The delivery of Years 4 and 5 is shared with the wholetime DT005 programme (common lectures).
The building services engineering team work closely with other engineering disciplines, architects, structural engineers and quantity surveyors on construction projects. The range of services required in buildings is continuously expanding offering graduates challenging and rewarding careers within the industry from the design, construction, manufacturing, sales, facilities and operational roles.
