Programme Description

This is a two year day release programme in hospitality management which provides opportunities for individuals who wish to pursue a career in management in the hospitality industry. It is aimed at complementing the practical experience gained by individuals working in the industry, with an academic focus in college. The programme leads to a DIT Higher Certificate award with graduates also obtaining membership of the IHI. Graduates can also apply to gain entry into the final year of the BA (Ord) in Hospitality Management Part-time (DT460) and BA (Ord) in Hospitality Management Full-time (DT408).

In addition to the subject areas mentioned above successful candidates must complete a range of modules relating to hospitality operations management in their work placement either prior to or during the programme.

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate or equivalent with a language and ordinary Level maths. In addition applicants will be currently employed or have gained experience (at least 1 year) in the hospitality industry.

Timetable 

lectures are delivered 1 day per week as follows:-

1   Tuesday   9am -  7.30pm
2   Wednesday   10am - 7.30pm
3   Tuesday   11am - 9.30pm
4   Tuesday    9am  -  7.30pm

Examinations

Examinations will be a combination of continuous assessment and final examinations.

Progression

This programme provides graduates with the necessary education and skills to effectively manage and supervise diverse hospitality operations. Graduates have the opportunity to gain employment in many hospitality operations such as hotels, restaurants, bars, cruise ships, corporate catering and industrial catering operations.

In addition graduates may continue their education either part-time or full-time through applying to gain entry into the final year of the BA (Ord) in Hospitality Management Part-time (DT460) and BA (Ord) in Hospitality Management Full-time (DT408).
