What is ... Higher Certificate Hotel & Restaurant Service?
This is a one year conversion higher certificate programme in Hotel and Restaurant Service. The programme is designed for applicants who have completed a trade qualification in a different discipline or for applicants who already hold a QQI/FETAC Level 6 award in a different field of study. Modules are delivered during the day and evenings. A key feature of this programme is a structured three months industry placement.
What are my Career Opportunities
This programme prepares students for entry level roles in the broader hospitality sector, for example in hotels, restaurants, bars, catering and event companies. Employment opportunities in the rapidly expanding hotel and tourism sector are plentiful.
What other options do I have after completion?
Students who have reached the appropriate standard can apply for advanced entry into DIT degree programmes in Hospitality, Tourism and Event Management.
The Higher Certificate programme provides a learning environment which builds upon the learning obtained as part of a Level 6 programme in another discipline and encourages a theoretical approach and a practical ethos. It provides a programme of study that enhances relationships with industry and the school as a centre of excellence in the hospitality, hotel and restaurant management area and it encourages social and ethical competencies in this field.
