The inter-disciplinary research in the Marine area in DIT ranges from Fish and Human health issues to Tourism and Hospitality. The disciplines involved include Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics and Environmental and Management Studies.
Originally set up in 2003, with the objective to develop diagnostic protocols for rapid detection and quantification of pathogenic organisms of significance to the Marine Industry in Ireland, the scope of the work has broadened since to cover environmental issues in relation to fish health, residues and subsequent human health.
The manager of the Group is Dr Ursula Mac Evilly who also heads up the biochemical and informatics subgroup.
