DIT’s commemoration plans for 1916

Dear Colleagues,

DIT plan to commemorate the events of the 1916 Easter Rising and in particular the events that took place on the site of our Aungier Street campus, the former site of Jacob’s biscuit factory.  Jacob’s  biscuit factory was one of the key sites occupied by the volunteer’s and included, among others, key personalities such as Thomas Mac Donagh, Major John MacBride and members of the Cumann na Mbann.  

Events planned include:

►       An Exhibition in the Aungier St. campus with information and images of the volunteers involved in the occupation of Jacob’s biscuit factory and relating to the factory itself, employees etc. 

►       “A Requiem for 1916”, composed by Odhrán Ó Casaide, DIT, Conservatory of Music and Drama.

►       DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, 3rd year student’s graduate production: “The Hostage” by Brendan Behan.

►       “A Terrible Beauty – Echoes of Easter 1916” – DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama.

►       A Wreath Laying ceremony.

►       A series of talks by various historians and authors of books on 1916.
